HLA President’s Message 2010-3

June, 2010

Dean Carr

Hello all.  The Annual Meeting was held May 3rd and went well.  Due to a resignation the members elected 4 new board members.  Three will serve full 3-year terms and the forth member will serve a 1-year term.  That board member, Betsy Frazier, will be eligible to serve two full terms.  Troy Carr was elected to a second term.  Garl Fink, a former president, and Ron Greensides, also a former president were elected.  After the general meeting a board meeting was held to elect officers and establish the next meeting, June 25th at the Pumphouse Park.

Soooo, the following is how your Board of Directors is organized:

I was re-elected President with additional duties of Parliamentarian;

Bryan Christensen was re-elected as Vice President;

Troy Carr is Public Safety Chair and will continue as the Webmaster.  The gates were moved to Public Safety because we are going to install security cameras at the Mountainside gate.  Troy has set up a committee to plan the security system.  If you have input contact him.  Jim Cavin, who left the board this year, will continue to manage the gate FOB / code system.  Jim will be responsible for the Mountainside gate and Betsy will be responsible for the Riverside gate.  Members who need additional FOB’s contact Jim.  Members who want to request temporary codes contact Jim for Mountainside and Betsy for Riverside.  (Remember that codes are issued only for specific events or situations.  The codes will be turned off at an appointed time.);

Rob Meier will continue as the Roads Chair.  He has been allocated funds to continue to improve the roads.  He has scheduled improvements in both Mountainside and Riverside.  The road from the gate to the bridge and from the bridge to the A-frame in Mountainside took a beating for 4 days during the flooding of the Weber River.  Although receiving significant damage it held and was not washed out.  The roads in Riverside also received damage but are passable.  Rob and Clay Crandall, our road contractor, have assessed the damages and I expect Rob will apply at the June 25th meeting for additional (reserve) funding to make repairs in both areas.

Bob Kooyman and Garl Fink are Co-Water Chair.  Bob will manage the water system in Riverside and Garl in Mountainside.  Garl will continue as Water Master and manage the automated water system in Mountainside;

Steve Pollard is the General Maintenance Chair.  Steve and Jim have met and toured the association, developing a plan for Workday, June 26th;

Ron Greensides is Special Projects Chair.  As different projects are identified Ron will manage them.  If members have ideas relating to improvements please contact him;

Lynn Horrocks will continue, much to the joy of all, as the Social & Recreation Chair.  He has plans for a great picnic and has enlisted several members to help.  Again, if you have ideas and/or want to help, please contact him;

Royce Mackay continues as Ways & Means & Membership Chair, a tough job sometimes when it comes to collecting the dues;

Diane Duncan was reappointed the Treasurer.  She works closely with Royce as a member of his committee.

Finally, but very important, is the scribe position.  Marla Holman has also been reappointed the Secretary.  She is responsible for the minutes that you can see in the Document Services section.

I mentioned the flooding.  We experienced what most have described as a 20-year flood.  I also mentioned that the roads survived.  I personally don’t know what damage those homes near the river, especially in Riverside, sustained but I’m sure some suffered.  The town of Oakley and some 9 other places were significantly affected.  However, the turnout to battle the river was impressive.  Summit County Public Works supplied sand and bags to anyone that needed them.  The citizens, including some of our own members, turned out to fill the bags, and deliver and place them.  There were Democrats and Republicans and Independents, and they banded together.  Amazing.

Ciao
